Kyrgyzstan Defies Trend: Remittances from Russia Hit Record $2.99 Billion as Flows to Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Armenia Plummet

A significant divergence is emerging in the cross-border payment landscape between Russia and its neighbors. According to the latest central bank data, money transfers from Russia to Kyrgyzstan reached a record $2.99 billion in 2025, up from $2.78 billion the previous year. This surge stands in stark contrast to the sharp decline in remittances to other traditional relocation hubs. Analysts at Mondiara note a profound correction in capital outflows to other regional economies: Kazakhstan: Transfers crashed to $108 million, a dramatic fall from $780 million in 2022. Georgia: Volumes dropped to $470 million, down from the 2022 peak of $2.07 billion. Armenia: Inflows slumped to $1.3 billion, compared to $3.95 billion previously. Experts attribute these shifts to the "normalization" of post-2022 migration waves, increased compliance pressure on banks in "friendly" jurisdictions, and the exhaustion of initial relocation savings. Kyrgyzstan remains the sole outlier, largely due to its sustained labor migration ties and its role as a key financial corridor within the EAEU framework.
