Russian Coal Export Prices to Asia Forecast to Rise 12% to $79/Tonne in 2026, Yet Industry Profitability Remains Negative

According to a new outlook from NEFT Research, the export price of Russian coal to Asian markets is projected to grow by 12% year-on-year, reaching an average of $79 per tonne in 2026. However, despite this price recovery, the industry is expected to remain in the red. Analysts at Mondiara highlight that the sector's structural challenges persist: skyrocketing production costs, increasing Russian Railways (RZD) tariffs, and a resilient ruble are eroding margins. Even with higher global demand, the "triple pressure" of logistics, operational expenses, and currency strength continues to threaten the long-term financial stability of Russian coal exporters.
